1. Advisory Referendum—November 2004

After collecting the signatures of 1,792 Bronzeville residents on a petition, Housing Bronzeville placed an advisory referendum on the November 2004 ballot.  The advisory referendum—a non-binding public opinion poll—asked residents if they would like to see a fund created in Bronzeville using tax dollars from the community for affordable housing.  This fund would be called the “Bronzeville Housing Trust Fund.”

18,519 Bronzeville voters—better than 85 %—voted “Yes” to the proposed establishment of this trust fund:

In order for this fund to be created, Bronzeville voters must approve it on a binding referendum.  Housing Bronzeville is seeking to give voters the opportunity to approve this proposal on a binding referendum on the November 2008 ballot.
